How do I transpose chords?
Transposing means moving every chord up or down by the same number of half steps so the song fits a new key or a singer's range. Type your chords above and use the minus and plus buttons. Each press shifts the whole progression by one half step and the chord shapes stay in the same relationship to each other.
What does a capo do to the key?
A capo clamps across a fret and raises the pitch of every open string. Each fret you move the capo up raises the sounding key by one half step. So an open C shape with the capo on the second fret actually sounds as a D chord, even though your hands are playing the easy C shape.
How do I read this capo chart?
Pick the open chord shape you like to play across the top, then find your capo fret down the left side. The cell where they meet is the chord it actually sounds like. It is the fastest way to see how familiar open shapes turn into other keys once the capo is on.
How do I find the right capo position for a key?
Use the capo finder above. Choose the key you want the song to sound in, and it lists each common open shape along with the capo fret that gets you there. Lower frets usually feel the most natural, while higher frets can get cramped near the body of the guitar.
